CFR § 1926.550 (a) (6): A thorough, annual inspection of the hoisting machinery shall be made by a competent person, or by a government or private agency recognized by U.S. Department of Labor The employer shall maintain a record of the dates and results of the inspections for each hoisting machine and piece of equipment.
OSHA has incorporated ANSI
B30.5 by 1926.550 (19) (b) (2).
The B20.5-3.1.1 (a) (4) Inspectors who have completed all operator trainee qualification requirements. However, liberal interpretation of this regulation has led to many owners believing they can satisfy this requirement by designing an in house inspector. The major problem with this approach is the natural conflict of interest an in-house inspector has with requiring costly repairs. Most insurers, major GCs, and major utilities have learned the hard way, in house inspection, to often are completed without ever seeing the machine. Or even more likely, without objectives effort a professional qualified inspector can provide.
MR TECH SAFETY SERVICES Inc. is taking a unique approach to crane ownership by training; not only for the operator, but for the hook-up/signalman, supervisor and inspector / serviceman in customized programs designed by a joint venture of our partnership and the crane owners.
OSHA, MSHA and many states, recognize the value of safety training and crane safety certification, as well as many of the major insurers and are rewarding their clients with favorable rates that can more than off set training cost.
We are registered with the U.S. Department of Labor, OSHA, Atlanta East and West. We have also held training secession for each office, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers {CCR}, Georgia Dept. of Labor Workforce Investment Board and Atlanta Regional Workforce Board.
